WHO CHOSE THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL?

The first eight students of the one-on-one reading clinic program chose the name in the year 1999. In the year 2000 when we registered our school, there was only one other Brainworks website online, and it was a software company.

WHERE DID YOU GET THIS PROGRAM? IS THIS A FRANCHISE OF AN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM?

This is an original program designed to reflect a balance between the best practices from homeschooling philosophy, multi-age philosophy, progressive philosophy and traditional educational practices.  The program was created in Davao City, Philippines.

IS BRAINWORKS A SPECIAL SCHOOL?

No, Brainworks is a regular school but because of its child-friendly philosophy, we are able to accept students with special needs who comprise 20% of our population.  The differently-abled learners whom we have accepted mostly have dyslexia and attention problems.

HOW IS BRAINWORKS DIFFERENT FROM MONTESSORI SCHOOLS?

Brainworks is very different from Montessori schools because our philosophy, teacher training and materials are not patterned after the Montessori materials and methods. 

HOW IS BRAINWORKS DIFFERENT FROM BIG SCHOOLS AND TRADITIONAL SCHOOLS?

We believe more in the ideas of Piaget, Dewey, Rogers and Noddings.  And Brainworks reflects our own implementation of these great thinkers' ideas.  We do not think learning happens from copying from the board, memorizing and regurgitating information.

DO YOU OFFER TUTORIAL SERVICES?

The Reading Clinic provides individualized educational programs for students who are smart but have difficulty in reading, writing, speaking, computation and problem solving -- both for Brainworks students and for students from other schools.  Still, we do not do academic tutoring or help with homework or exams.
